About me

Hello, this is Mashiat! I am currently a first year CS Ph.D. student in Purdue University, working in the Graphics and Visualization Lab, advised by Dr. Xavier Tricoche. I previously earned my Bachelors degree from the Department of Computer Science & Engineering in Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology and worked as a lecturer there for a year. Currently I am aiming for a research oriented career in the field of Graphics and Visualization.

My undergraduate thesis was in Bioinformatics under the supervision of Dr. Md.Shamsuzzoha Bayzid on building a prediction model for Alzheimer's Disease based on genetic data. Over the last four years, I participated in multiple competitions in the field of Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Object Detection etc and won in a few. Our idea on AI Based Dengue Control & Monitor system won 2nd prize in Microsoft Azure Hackathon 2022 and UNDP Hackathon. I am also working on a project to identify dengue breeding sites in dhaka city under the guidance of Dr.Anindya Iqbal, Dr. Sohel Rahman, Dr. Manzur Murshed.

Besides my academics, I enjoy travelling, reading books, dancing, and specially charity work. I co-lead a project named Library Project in an NGO called Agami Education Foundation. Our project started in 2019 and till now we have reached around 2,000 underprivileged students aiming to improve their reading fluency and increasing their reading habit. I love to organize and lead people and have been involved in many extra curricular activities since my childhood.

  2. Identification of dengue breeding places from aerial images

    A study on identification of dengue breeding places from aerial images of different parts of Dhaka City, working under Dr.Anindya Iqbal and Dr. Manzur Murshed. Here we took drone images of three different areas and then processed it with Photogrammetry to generate a 3D dataset and an orthophoto. Now using the top view of the area, we are trying to identify key locations where the possibility for dengue breeding is high. We are using a combination of techniques of Computer Vision & Image Processing such as segmentation, histogram equalization, object detection for that.

  3. Prediction of Alzheimer's Disease based on genetic data

    A study on developing a prediction model along with identifying relevant traits for AD based on SNPs of an individual under the supervision of Dr.Shamsuzzoha Bayzid collaborating with ICAHN School of Medicine. The SNPS were quality controlled to generate PRS values for different traits. These traits were passed through an automated feature selection pipeline to identify the important ones and then an ML model was trained for predicting different progression states of Alzheimer's Disease. Currently we are reviewing our manuscript for publication. [medRXiv]

  4. Development of Flood Forecasting System for Someshwari-Kangsa Sub-watershed of Bangladesh-India Using Different Machine Learning Techniques

    In this study, five different machine learning algorithms were used to develop 180 independent models for flood forecasting in the Someshwari-Kangsa sub-watershed of Bangladesh, North Central hydrological region with 5772 km2 drainage area. The models used were exponent back propagation neural network (EBPNN), multilayer perceptron (MLP), support vector regression (SVR), DT Regression (DTR), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) based on a different combination of time lags for input data and lead time in forecast. Lead, Agami Library Project

Leading the Agami Library Project of Agami Education Foundation since 2019 with my childhood friend, Taz. Our project aims to increase the reading habit of underprivileged students by establishing libraries in their schools and introducing a system. We lead a team of around fifty volunteers and have an intern. With their help, till now, we have reached around 2000 students and distributed around 2500 books.

Dance Mob Organizer

I never had any professional training, but dancing is something I love. I love it more when I do it in a group. I have made numerous friendships, connections through this.
